Yesterday Emma and I got in the car and headed over to Port Orchard for a few days. Yesterday we spent time with my Grandpa Trogdon over a nice salmon dinner. Today we picked blackberries and had enough for 5 batches of jam which is 22 pints. Then we canned carrots and got 28 pints. Tomorrow we are canning nectarines and peaches and freezing zucchini. Emma is having a blast playing with her Uncle Kaleb and my parent's dog Sandy. The weather here is typical Western Washington weather. Rainy and in the 50-60s. We had a pretty cool lightening storm last night with heavy rain. I guess there was even a funnel cloud over Lake Washington.
Jacob is at home going to work and we miss him. It's just him and our dog Annie for another day and a half. This is the first time we've been apart since our move to Washington and it's kinda weird. I've already gotten use to being with him all the time in these few months.
We head back home Thursday afternoon to make it in time for our friend Vance's wedding reception in Kennewick. For those of you who aren't from Washington, we get to drive through some of the best places in Washington to get fruit. In Colorado when I looked for boxes of peaches last year, I could only find them for $18/box. Well... in Yakima I can get them for $8/box and $5/box for the over ripe ones.
I love coming back to Port Orchard to visit family. Coming to visit the Trogdon home isn't like going to any other home in the USA. When you come, you work...a lot. Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps and my parents house is the house that never sleeps. I love it though. Even in high school, if my friends ever slept over on a Friday night they would get stuck mucking out the barn with me. Poor Serena and Ashley had to experience that with me. It's a wonder I still had friends when I graduated!
