"Listen earnestly to anything [your children] want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff." - Catherine M. Wallace

This last month
We went to Portland to visit our friends Scott and Lauren. While there we went to the Voodoo Doughnut shop. We waited in line for 55 minutes to get doughnuts. Are we crazy you might ask? Probably but they were some dang good doughnuts! Then on our way back home from Portland the girls were getting restless so we stopped at this cool museum on the way home and gave the girls a break. They had a blast!
Linnea got a little piano from my in laws for her birthday and she loves to play on it. She has also learned how to climb and I recently found her on top of the coffee table walking around. And Emma, Emma is just a silly girl. Her hair is bleach blond now from all the sun we've had and it looks so pretty. I have some beautiful girls!

the freshman - the verve pipe
I loved this song as a young teen. I have just now discovered the meaning behind the song. Such a great song that tells about the woes and hardships of being young and stupid.

Summer Activity Idea #1/ Favorite Summer Recipe
Step and Spell:
Make and laminate the letters of the alphabet (BIG). Place them on the floor arranged like a qwerty keyboard. Say a word, have the kid hope on the keys to spell it.
And if you don't have money to laminate the letters I'll fill you in on an old school laminating secret if you don't already know it. Go and buy clear contact paper it's like $5 for a roll and then you just cut the paper to size and peel it of and stick it on the paper on both sides you want laminated. It doesn't make it stiff but it helps preserve the paper longer.
And here is a great recipe for summer time. We love them!
Family Favorite Kabobs
(Taste of Home)
6 small red potatoes, halved
1 ½ c vegetable oil
1/3 c lemon juice
1/3 c Worcestershire sauce
¼ c white wine vinegar
¼ c soy sauce
3 T prepared mustard
2 T minced fresh parsley
3 tsp pepper
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 (1 pound each) pork tenderloins cut into 1 inch cubes
3 medium ears sweet corn cut into 1 inch wheels
1 large green pepper, cut into 2 inch pieces
1 (11 ½ oz) pkg. cherry tomatoes
½ pound medium fresh mushrooms
1 ½ c cubed fresh pineapple
1 large onion, cut into wedges
Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes or until tender. Drain and cool slightly, set aside.
In a small bowl, combine the next 9 ingredients . Pour half into a large resealable plastic bag; add the pork. Pour remaining marinade into another large resealable plastic bag, add the vegetables and pineapple. Seal both bags and turn to coat; refrigerate for 2 hours. Drain and discard both marinades. On 12 metal or soaked wooden skewers, alternately thread pork with vegetables and pineapple. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 8-10 minutes on each side or until pork juices run clear. Yield: 6 servings.

Linnea turned 1!
On the 27th of May my little one turned a year old. She was with her sister at their Mor Mor and Papa's house having a blast while Jacob and I worked. We had a small dinner with Jacob's family and mine including my grandpa and cousin Lisa. I can't believe I have a one year old and a 3 1/2 year old. Linnea has grown so much like all babies do their first year. It's pretty amazing that they go from not being able to hold their head up to rolling, crawling, standing, eating regular food and walking.
Linnea loves blocks and balls. Her favorite stuffed animal is "Mr. Elephant". Linnea is a very happy and vocal little girl. She adores her big sis Emma and wants to be with her most of the time. Linnea is also very independent and loves to play by herself. Unfortunately when Linnea wants to be alone Emma wants to play with her and when Emma wants to be alone Linnea wants to play with her.
Walking is something that hasn't really happened for Linnea yet. If it's not her idea to practice walking then she gets mad when you try and help her practice. Once she's done practicing, she's done and if you try and encourage her to keep going she will sit down and scream at you. (Pretty much the only time I hear her scream... that and when Emma smacks her).
I'll have to post pictures of her birthday party later. I used my parents camera because our card was full and then the battery died on the camera I was using. Bummer.
